About
the Project
Communication,
both its tools and processes, has long been recognised as central to
the women's movement. It is a vital tool for activism as it ensures
that the issues get heard, discussed and acted upon. Women's organisations
across the world play an active role in ensuring that women are able
to communicate with each other in a meaningful way and that they are
able to communicate their issues, concerns, views and ideas to the right
audience.
Collective
Journeys is an online project that aims to:
-
document the history of women's information and communication organisations
and the roles they played vis-à-vis the women and other social
movements
- collate
and highlight innovative works of women's information and communication
organisations in supporting and strengthening women's movements focusing
on southern formations
Collective
Journeys is unique and timely because there are few documentations that
exist on information and communication activities about the women's
organisations. Information and documentation has played a significant
role in advancing women's issues since the beginning of the women's
movement, more so with the advent of information and communication technologies.
The
project will also be presented and promoted at the media exhibitions
and activities during the coming World Summit on the Information Society
on 10-12 December 2003, where more organisations will be invited to
submit content for the site.
